Cultivation of harmonic and safe community
Sham Shui Po was a district where lot of new immigrants lived in, about 13.6% of the population. Amongst, many of them especially women were come from China for family reunion. This group of people needed to adjust themselves in the mode of living, the social system, the living environment, education, employment and language etc in Hong Kong. If there was inadequate support, they might have difficult to adjust and integrate themselves into the community. The community stakeholders such as Sham Shui District Council, government departments, local non-government organizations strived hard to help this group of people to integrate into the community. ¡§Building a mutually respect and love community¡¨ was a project organized by SSP DC Working Group on New Arrival, Youth and Families, local non-government organizations. A series of programs / activities such as visit to Sham Shui Po Police Station to understand police operation, organized carnival to promote mutually respect and love community, promulgation to public by ¡§mutually respect and love community ambassadors¡¨. Through the activities, the new immigrants would feel being accepted, know what the community resources available for them and could integrate into the community as early as possible.

Another project, namely ¡§Leading a Healthy Life ¡V New Arrival Families Community Health Network¡¨ was jointly organized by one non-government organization with Caritas Medical Centre. Besides, social isolation and ignorance of community resources jeopardized their situation and delayed appropriate treatment. 18 non-government organizations and local schools were network. Over 20,000 number of people participated in the project. A community symposium had been held to share the project and findings with community partners.

Traffic / Road Safety
The new immigrants were unfamiliar to the road crossing facilities, rules and regulation when they newly arrived at Hong Kong. To prevent unnecessary road accident, visits and educational talks were arranged by Sham Shui Po District Road Safety Campaign Committee. More than 800 immigrants had participated. By increasing their road safety awareness, understanding on the rules and regulation, careless road crossing would be lessened. Thus, the risk of traffic injury/ accident would be reduced.

Increase Public Awareness on Women Safety
According to Sham Shui Po Community Diagnosis Study, local residents considered indecent assault as one of the risk posed to women. Though the number of attendance for indecent assault to AED of Caritas Medical Centre was small as compared with other types of trauma, the issue must not be overlooked. Therefore, a project was organized by SSP DC Healthy and Safe Community Steering Committee and one non-government organization to increase public awareness on women safety. Self-protected strategies were taught to women. Risk and unsafe spots were identified and made known to public via media. Over 800 residents participated.
