To serve Hong Kong by making it a safe place to live and work is the vision of Fire Service Department (FSD). Promoting a fire safety culture among the community is necessitated through public education such as fire safety talk, seminar and fire drill. FSD also works closely with community partners for fire protection and fire prevention promotion.

Sham Shui Po District Fire Safety Committee had organized activities to increase local residents’ awareness on fire prevention. These included colouring competition, painting competition, exhibition, carnivals, visit to Fire Station and fire risk assessment for aged buildings by Fire Safety Ambassador. Moreover Fire Prevention newsletter was issued regularly to private premises, estates to increase the awareness of fire prevention and fire protection.

In Sham Shui Po, many buildings were erected between the 1950s and 1960s. Numerous deteriorating buildings and unauthorized structures had created many problems in building management and fire prevention. SSP DC Working Group on Private Premises, Problems, Housing Committee, government departments and local community partners regularly held seminars, carnivals, premium building contest, property management course and building maintenance scheme to enhance safe and quality property management, safe premises for the tenants. Over 1,600 people (including estate management staff and residents) participated in the programs and activities.
